This is what happens when a diverse community come together to provide an unforgettable day for our often-forgotten members of society….our differently-abled young adults.
An initial thought by Jorge Simoes, the CEO of Otima Plastics, turned into a magical day for the young differently-abled adults from Steven’s Ability Centre in Bedfordview and Aidan, a young boy with Castello Syndrome.
Jorge wanted to do something special for these youngsters and being part of the Mustang Club Gauteng, he thought that they would really enjoy a day out in Ford Mustangs.
This then turned into a fundraising effort for Steven’s Ability Centre, with various people coming on board to make the event, which took place at the Brakpan Airport, a huge success.
Steven’s Ability Centre offers a safe space for young differently-abled adults in Bedfordview. The Centre recently relocated to bigger premises in Bedfordview, to become a full day facility, thereby incurring substantial costs.
The Centre is a non-profit organization that relies mostly on offerings from parents and donations to keep its doors open. All proceeds raised through the event, will assist the Centre in meeting some of its costs.
The Centre also had beautiful Christmas creations made by the youngsters to be sold to the public to assist in raising their funds.
The delight on their faces was real.
On the day of the event, Mustang Club Gauteng members were escorted by various biker groups, including the Dicing Stars and Bikers Against Bullies as they drove in convoy to the airport. Upon arriving at the airport, the youngsters enjoyed a yummy brekkie and were taken on rides in the Mustangs. The delight on their faces was real.
A big thank you to the members of the Mustang Club Gauteng, the biker groups who assisted so gracefully, the sponsors as well as everyone that contributed to the success of this very special day.
