My guardian angel goes by the name of Michael Bele.
Earlier this afternoon, on my way to Cape Town via the notorious N2, the strong wind dislodged the catch of my bonnet (it was faulty) and it blew up against the windscreen, smashing it. I managed to pull off to the side of the road, 50m away from the R300 turn off and right opposite a high-risk, crime ridden area.
I could not continue driving as the bonnet would not close. I phoned my son who promised to be there as soon as he could, but that meant him having to drive all the way from Montagu Gardens, which would take forever.
He immediately said . . . I needed to get out of there quickly.
Cars kept swishing past. Then a car pulled off to the side of the road, some distance in front of me. Slowly the driver reversed and stopped close to my car, and both of us got out onto the side of the road. He asked me what had happened, and I briefly explained. He immediately said he needed to find something to tie the bonnet down to keep it secure and then I needed to get out of there quickly.
My eyes went to the houses opposite and there were three guys standing behind the fence, eyes fixed on us. Michael managed to find a piece of black rope and quickly secured the bonnet. He then tried to get the cars approaching us to slow down to allow me to get back on the road.
With my hazards on, I drove very slowly. My phone was ringing off the hook, but I could not answer because all my attention needed to be on driving my car with a broken bonnet and a smashed windscreen. Michael drove slowly behind me and occasionally pulled his car alongside mine to tell me to just carry on.
I managed to let my daughter know what was happening and asked her to tell my son that I was driving back towards Cape Town. Michael followed me all the way to the Total Garage in Goodwood, where I waited for my son. He insisted on waiting with me, even offering to buy me something to eat. My son arrived and Michael took off, knowing that I was safe. He even sent me WhatsApp messages to make sure I was okay.
I am so grateful, and I thank our Heavenly Father for sending my own guardian angel to look after me today. I hope to find Michael’s Facebook profile so that I can acknowledge him there. God bless you Michael.
