This is my story for today.

I was standing in line at the Hungry Lion to buy treats for my kids just to spoil them.  I turned around and saw this elderly lady standing three people behind me.

I looked in the direction she was calling, and I saw an elderly man looking pale and shaky.

She looked like she was in a hurry and was very edgy.  I turned back to the queue for a second and when I looked back, the lady was gone.  A few minutes later she came back but re-joined the queue right at the back, maybe ten people behind where she had originally been standing.

The lady was still as edgy as she was before.  As I started to go towards her, she began calling to someone.  I looked in the direction she was calling, and I saw an elderly man looking pale and shaky.  She told him to just keep waiting where he was.

I went to her and said to her in Afrikaans, “Tannie, ek het jou plek hier lanks my gehou”.  The ten people in front of her looked at me very strangely, but she came and stood with me further ahead in the queue.

She also said that she will go and help someone the just same way I did.

She thanked me with the sweetest smile, saying, “my man voel nie lekker nie.  Sy suiker is baie lag en sy wil net n roomys koop om hom beter te laat voel”.  She ordered an ice cream with caramel dip, took it to her husband and they left.

I got my order and headed back to the taxi rank to go home.  As I was about to get into a taxi, I saw the couple sitting in their bakkie, the husband eating his ice cream.  I went up to them and asked her if her husband was feeling better and she replied, “ja, baie dankie.  Jy het ons regtig baie gehelp het”.  She also said that she will go and help someone the just same way I did.

I walked to the taxi with a big smile and a happy heart.
