Darrin Rossouw lives in the beautiful coastal suburb of Bluewater Bay, Port Elizabeth. He has successfully fought his way to being a professional boxer in the Welterweight and Super Welterweight Boxing Division of South Africa, at the very fresh age of 20.
Serious training began at the age of 15 and he fell in love with the art.
He started his boxing journey as a young boy. His father, Lindon, had him hitting the boxing bags and speedballs. Dad then added another title of trainer, as he discovered the natural boxing talent in Darrin. Serious training began at the age of 15 and he fell in love with the art.
At 16 Darrin’s talent was noticed in professional boxing circles. Not too much later, he participated in his first amateur fight. In a matter of five months of hectic training, he managed to conquer a gold medal at the Eastern Cape Amateur Boxing Championships. Following this achievement, only three weeks later, he won silver in the South African Amateur Boxing Championships.
Never one to sit still, he continued this grueling training. It paid off with his winning the Gold Medal at the South African National Defence Force tournament, in his weight division.
This success prompted him to turn pro in February, 2019. His first professional fight was under the wings of Golden Gloves promotions, with former world champion, Brian Mitchell as his manager. The fight was held at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, where he won the fight by a TKO (Technical Knock Out).
“Young people of South Africa, always strive to be the best at your craft. Find love and passion in everything that you do, work hard at it.”
Darrin says, “My dad being my trainer was one of the best things I could have asked for. Watching him work hard for our family to live the life we live, inspires me. It gives me the motivation to also work hard and put in the necessary hours, whether it be on the road during roadwork or in the gym hitting the bag.”
“Having two fights cancelled because of the the lockdown, my biggest motivation is to get back into the ring in full force, ready to claim all titles. My dedication and training is what keeps me going through this difficult time that our country and what the world is facing.”
“Young people of South Africa, always strive to be the best at your craft. Find love and passion in everything that you do, work hard at it. South Africa is the land of opportunities!
