My daughter swam the Midmar Mile on 9 February 2020. About an hour before her race I realised her goggles were with me. As a mother, you only want what is best for your child. I was anxious. When I got to the bus stop (to take the bus to the start line), I met this amazing woman. It was as if an angel had been sent to help me.
She asked me where I was going and I told her my daughter was doing event 7 and that I needed to get her goggles to her. Her answer to me was, “Don’t stress, I’m a teacher and I will make sure she gets them before the race.”
Ms Shone, you are my reason for #ImStaying.
I will never forget those words. My husband gave her all the details for our daughter and, as promised, she made sure my daughter got her goggles before the race. The teacher’s race was number 1739. I tracked her name as Ms Nicole Shone on the Midmar results. I want to say a big THANK YOU to her, as South Africa needs more teachers like her.
Ms Shone, you are my reason for #ImStaying. I was blessed and honoured to have met you!
I wish I had taken a photo, because she deserves all the gratitude in the world.
