This young man is Bheki Nxumalo, a former SABC DJ and currently employed by the great city of Nelspruit. I am proud to say that this man is my best friend. But that is not why I’m writing this post.
A couple of years ago all of my vehicles for some reason or another had engine problems at the same time. I managed to organise a scooter as a form of transport for myself.
Bheki came over to our business and watched me washing the scooter. As usual, there was a lot of laughter and banter between us, but he was quieter than usual. He said he would see me later and off he went.
Without this unbelievably kind gesture, I do not know how we would have continued.
About 30 minutes later, he came back and slipped something into my hand. It was a set of keys. It was for an SUV that I did not even know he owned.
His parting words were, “My friend, you will not be seen riding a scooter around Nelspruit.”
Out of all my friends, he stood up that day and not only helped me with a vehicle but drove me through a dark hour. Without this unbelievably kind gesture, I do not know how we would have continued.
Bheki, I will never forget this. I love you bud, even though you support the rotten three: Pirates, Arsenal, and Sporting.
