We all have this idea of what the future holds for us. But have we given any thought to how our attributes play a part in our everyday lives?  All of us play a part in the lives of people around us. At times, it is such a small thing to you. You do not even notice the significance it has for others.

They give so much of their hearts to those in need.

Let us take the caregivers in nursing homes, as an example; they are the kind faces the elderly see every day. They give so much of their hearts to those in need. In the eyes of the elderly, they are the superheroes. Most have no idea the smiles they give so freely are what lights up the day for those in their care. That one act seems so small. So insignificant in the grand scheme of life. Yet it has the ability to change the mindset of a person. I cannot express the amount of gratitude, the amount of respect, I hold for these individuals.

In the eyes of the elderly, they are the superheroes.

They serve completely with mind, body and soul.

They are the example that we must follow. The sacrifices they make every day are astonishing. They serve completely with mind, body and soul. For them, it is not about the next paycheque at the end of the month. It is about creating connections with those nearing the end of their lives in this place they call home. In my eyes they are angels. They are the guardians of hope, love, compassion and strength.

They have the most wide-open hearts of all.

How can we even begin to say thank you for all that they have done? How can any of us begin to comprehend the way caregivers enrich the lives of those around them? I am humbled to see the selflessness of caregivers. They have the most wide-open hearts of all.

So, in this Woman’s Month, let us honour these heroes.

Make no mistake they are heroes, the unsung heroes. They sacrifice time with their families to look after our older generations. The lessons one learns from these heroes are gifts. Patience. Unconditional love. Kindness. The willingness to listen, to be humble, to have faith in those around us.

They sacrifice time with their families to look after our older generations.

I hope someday when I am old and grey that I will experience that care myself, that kindness, that devotion. And to the person reading this, I hope that one day you will enjoy the same.
