Heavy snowfall hit the N3 between Estcourt and Harrismith, causing up to 30 km of gridlock and trapping hundreds of motorists — including trucks, taxis, and buses — in freezing conditions
The initiative was to help each other on the N3 and share resources to assist each other.

“A heartfelt thank you to our local heroes from Gauteng, Lenasia!
Cllr Jakes Karolia, N12 Hi Care Security, JML Towing, Pulsate Ambulance, and the selfless I’mStaying Team with volunteers, and many others who drove all the way from Gauteng to help – you’ve shown the true spirit of Ubuntu!
A swift response and kindness brought warmth and comfort to those stranded on the N3. Distributing biscuits, noodles, tea, coffee, blankets, and sweets was more than just an act of charity – it was a reminder that we’re all in this together.
Walking car to car and to trucks in the bitter cold, your generosity and compassion embody the values of Madiba’s legacy. You’ve proven that even in challenging times, South Africans can come together to support one another.
To each and every one of you, we say: Siyabonga! May your generosity inspire others to pay it forward.
