We received a letter on 16 March 2020 advising parents not to let pupils return to a school in Mfuleni. Mfuleni is an informal settlement in Cape Town which borders Khayelitsha. The letter was sent out after one of the parents came into contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19.

These two suburbs combined have a population of approximately 400 000 residents. We need to focus on preventing and containing the virus in this community.
As a movement for change, upliftment and good deeds, we want to assist them with hygiene and care packages, this will help curb the spread of the coronavirus in these informal settlements.
We urge South Africans to assist us to raise funds and reach out to these individuals. #ImStaying wants to supply them with a hygiene pack consisting of disinfectants, hand sanitizers, soap and basic hygiene products as well as food packs. The estimated cost of a hygiene pack is approximately R100 per person, unless we get sponsors to assist with some of these essential products.
It is common knowledge that the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions are most susceptible to this virus. We want to ensure that our elderly, frail and sick individuals are taken care of in this time of need.
