I met this lady on Facebook through a mutual acquaintance. I had never officially been introduced to her, but we always liked and commented on each other’s posts, and gave support when it was needed.
A year ago, on the 25th September 2018, my mom passed away. Needless to say, it was a very trying time for my family and, according to Muslim custom, we bury the same day or the very next day. This was the case with my mom.
I had given her no real reason to support me, yet there she was, supporting my family and me.
When I walked out of my house on the day of the funeral, there, among a sea of faces sat this lady. I had never actually met her. I had given her no real reason to support me, yet there she was, supporting my family and me.
Thando Wa Thabang, I am not sure if I have ever officially thanked you, or if I have ever told you how very much that gesture meant to me. So please allow me now, in front of all #Stayers, to do so.
I appreciate that gesture more than you will ever know and more than I will ever be able to put into words. You are the epitome of Ubuntu and I am grateful to share a part of my everyday life with you. And because of people like you #ImStaying
